Prerequisites

English 🇬🇧

If English is your second language, and you are not coming from an institution with English as a medium of instruction, you must demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency equivalent to IELTS 6.0/CEFR B2/Upper intermediate to take part in academic modules. To join the English Communication Skills pathway, you will need to demonstrate a level equivalent to IELTS 5.0/CEFR B1/Intermediate.

We are able to accept a range of exam certificates as proof of your proficiency in English, or your home institution can vouch for you with a confirmation of language level document (WORD, 41KB)

Any student who is found to fall significantly below the required level on arrival may be refused registration or, if appropriate, moved to the English communication skills pathway.

Students who wish to join the International Summer School must meet the following criteria:

  • You will be a current student at undergraduate or postgraduate level, or have completed an undergraduate degree at a university worldwide

Accommodation

International Summer School students are housed in our fantastic University halls of residence that offers students a comfortable and safe setting during their time with us, as well as providing an extra opportunity for meeting new people and making lifelong friendships.

University accommodation is guaranteed, meaning you do not need to apply separately for accommodation and you will automatically be allocated a room on acceptance of your unconditional offer letter.

International Summer School students are able to opt-out of University accommodation – whether they prefer to make alternative arrangements, or stay with family or friends – but we strongly recommend staying with us on campus and immersing yourself in the community atmosphere.

Student experiences

Over the course of the last three weeks, I can genuinely say that Liverpool has felt like a second home for me. Between going to class, travelling, and meeting so many new people, I really feel like this experience has helped me grow and learn so much as a person and student. I am so grateful for the memories I've made here, and cannot believe how quickly the time goes by. UoL is a great place to be.

The best thing about this programme was definitely how welcoming and supportive everyone was – from the university staff to the students and even the people of Liverpool. As a medical student from Saudi Arabia, it was amazing to be part of such a diverse and inclusive environment. I learned so much academically and culturally, and the time passed so quickly – I truly didn’t want it to end!
