Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) is a public research university and one of the largest research and educational institutions in Germany. Its origins date back to 1825. KIT is a member of the TU9, a group of the largest and most notable German institutes of technology. Six Nobel laureates had been affiliated with the institution. The university is well known for many inventors and entrepreneurs who studied or taught there, including Heinrich Hertz, Karl Friedrich Benz and the founders of SAP SE. According to a 2015 survey, KIT has produced the largest number of top managers among German universities, with 24 board members of the 100 largest German companies. Also, in two of the most notable university rankings, the ones made by QS and Times Higher Education, KIT is listed among the best 150 universities worldwide.
