Founded in 1666, Lund University is a public Swedish research university. With nearly 45.000 students, it is one of the biggest universities in Sweden. The city of Lund has a long history as a center for learning and was the ecclesiastical center and seat of the archbishop of Denmark. The university is active in many internationally important research areas such as nanotechnology, climate change and stem cell biology. Many scientific discoveries were made at Lund University, such as: Bluetooth technology, Facial recognition technology and Ice Age theory. It is a member of LERU and Universitas 21, and its international relations are strong, ranging from Heidelberg University to Nanyang Technological University. Lund University is ranked among the world’s top-100 universities by almost every major international ranking.
