Named after the general Sir John Monash, Monash University is a public university founded in 1958 in Melbourne. It is the first Australian university named after a person. Its campus spans over 100 hectares of land. The institution is a member of the prestigious “Group of Eight”, an association of the Australia’s eight most prominent research universities. The university is home to over 120 research centers and institutes, and its staff produce over 3,000 research publications each year, with research conducted in over 150 fields of study. Monash is one of the most selective Australian universities. Its prestige is strong not only nationally, but also internationally: every major international ranking place Monash University among the top 50-100 universities in the world.
