Established as the Imperial University of Peking in 1898, Peking University is now one of C9 League of Chinese universities, making it one of the most prominent academic institutions in the country. It is ranked among the top 20 universities in the world by QS, Times Higher Education and CWTS. The university has one of the largest libraries in the world, with more than 8 million volumes. Many international students are hosted at Peking University, and international exposure is a crucial goal of the institution. Many nationalities are represented on campus, and the university keeps a strong international network of partners such as: Stanford University, London School of Economics and Cornell University. It had also been the alma mater of Mao Zedong.
