With more than 3.500 students, Reykjavík University is the largest private university in Iceland. It is chartered by the Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Icelandic Industries, and the Confederation of Icelandic Employers. The university has its roots in the Commercial College of Iceland, School of Computer Science, which was founded in 1988 and operated within the Commercial College of Iceland facilities for ten years. Its researchers have received grants from the European Research Council, other European research grants, and awards such as the Kurzweil award for research excellence in the field of artificial intelligence. Its study programmes have been accredited by AMBA, EPAS and EQUANIE.
