Established in 1862, Riga Technical University (RTU) is a technical public university and the oldest technical university in the Baltics. It was founded as the first polytechnical institute in Imperial Russia. It offered degrees in agriculture, chemistry, engineering, mechanics, trade and architecture, with education in German language. RTU had won the first place among universities in Latvia in the international U-Multirank rating. The employment of its graduates is rated at the A level, the highest achievable level. The university puts an impressive emphasis on sustainability: it was recognized as the 14th best in the world in the “Climate Action” field of the global ranking made by Times Higher Education.
