Established in 1754 as a gift to the King Frederik V on his 31st birthday, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts is a public university located in Copenhagen. The academy teaches and conducts research on the subjects of painting, sculpting, architecture, graphics, photography, video and in the history of those subjects. KADK builds on strong traditions within its three, historically well-anchored schools: Architecture, Conservation and Design. The institution strives towards the preservation of culture and nature, and the design of physical objects and environments to internationally recognised standards. The education of KADK is based on a combination of theory and practice: a substantial part of the teaching takes place at the drawing board and in workshops, and in joint presentations and academic seminars in small units of teachers and students.
