Universidad Austral de Chile (UACh) is a Chilean research university established in 1954. It is one of the eight original Chilean Traditional Universities founded before the 1980s. Currently ranked 701+ in the world, the university also features in the global top 150 for agriculture and the top 500 for medicine. UACh is one of the leading universities of Chile in matters of scientific research. It was ranked second only to the University of Chile in scientific research by El Mercurio and was the third university to receive most of government Mecesup research funds in 2008.
