Founded in 1842, Universidad de Chile is located in Chile’s capital city, Santiago. The university is an autonomous, public, national institution. It is the oldest and most important university in the country and one of the most prestigious in South America. In the past 170+ years, its professors and alumni have developed the laws, the institutions and the social, political, economic, artistic and cultural frame of Chile, with a strong influence that affected directly also many other Latin American countries. Universidad de Chile is tightly linked to the political culture of the country, with 20 former presidents being alumni of the institution. The AACSB accreditation status emphasises the international prominence of the university.
