Established in 1890, University of Chicago is a private American research university. It was founded by the American Baptist Education Society and John D. Rockefeller, and its campus was built on land donated by Marshall Field. Now its main campus consists of 217 acres in the Chicago neighborhoods of Hyde Park and Woodlawn, and it has been judged as the most beautiful college campus in the United States for many years. Its students, faculty, and staff count among them 101 Nobel laureates, 10 Fields Medalists, 4 Turing Award winners, 52 MacArthur Fellows, 26 Marshall Scholars, 27 Pulitzer Prize winners, 20 National Humanities Medalists, 29 living billionaire graduates, and 8 Olympic medal winners. Admission rates are very low due to its high prestige: it is ranked among the 10 best universities in the world by QS, Times Higher Education, ARWU and CWTS.
