The University of Groningen is a Dutch public research university. Founded in 1614, the university is the second-oldest university in the Netherlands after Leiden University. Its alumni and faculty include: Johann Bernoulli, Aletta Jacobs, four Nobel Prize winners, nine Spinoza Prize winners, one Stevin Prize winner, royalty, multiple mayors, the first president of the European Central Bank, and a secretary general of NATO. The University of Groningen enjoys an excellent international reputation, as demonstrated by its placements in the most important world’s universities rankings: 65th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, 96th in the CWTS Leiden World Ranking, 128th in the QS World University Rankings, 73rd in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and 96th in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking.
