It was founded in 1682, making it the oldest art and design academy in the Netherlands and one of the oldest ones in the world. It has been the training ground for a number of significant artists of the Hague School. The academy is an important international player with its intensive, structured, and small-scale education, where students become artists and designers with unique visual abilities.
