The University of California, Santa Cruz (UC Santa Cruz) is a public research university in Santa Cruz, California. It is one of 10 campuses in the University of California system. Founded in 1965, UC Santa Cruz began with the intention to showcase progressive, cross-disciplinary undergraduate education, innovative teaching methods and contemporary architecture. The residential college system consists of ten small colleges. Its campus lies on 2.000 acres of rolling, forested hills overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Monterey Bay. The university is classified among the “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity”. UC Santa Cruz is ranked among the 200 best universities in the world by the Academic Ranking of World Universities, U.S. News & World Report Best Global University Ranking and Times Higher Education World University Rankings.
