Founded in 1911, the University of Hong Kong (HKU) is the oldest public research university in Hong Kong and one of the best universities in Asia. Admission to HKU is highly competitive: enrollment rate for Mainland China applicants was 1 for every 21 applications. The institution has an extremely valuable research output: 100 members of its academic staff are ranked among the top 1% of scientists in the world by means of the citations recorded on their publications. University of Hong Kong is ranked among the very best world’s universities. As of 2020, HKU ranks 22nd in the world by QS World University Rankings and 35th according to Times Higher Education’s global ranking. HKU is also ranked as the most international university in the world according to the same ranking in 2019.
