The University of Kent is a semi-collegiate public research university based in Kent, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1965 as a “plate glass” university. The institution was granted its Royal Charter in 1965, and the following year Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, was formally installed as its first Chancellor. It is an international university, with students coming from 128 different nationalities and 41% of its academic and research staff coming from outside the United Kingdom. QS World University Rankings ranks University of Kent as the 355th best university in the world, while Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranks it among the best 400 worldwide.
