When Edith Cowan University (ECU) was founded in Perth in 1991, one of the basic ideas was to offer students a practical and professionally relevant course of study. The university was named after the first woman to be elected to the Australian Parliament in 1921. Edith Dircksey Cowan spent her life campaigning for the rights of women and children. Education was a central issue for her, which is why the courses in educational sciences are among the university’s prestigious programs.
In addition to these, ECU is particularly well known for its arts, social sciences and health sciences courses. In the meantime, the range of courses on offer has expanded considerably and students can choose from a total of eight subject areas. Courses in Business & Law, Engineering, and Science (IT, Computer Science) are very popular.
ECU currently has three campuses in and around Perth. The main campus, Joondalup, is located just outside Perth city center near the coast. The second campus, Mount Lawley, is located just a few minutes from the city center. However, this will only remain in operation until 2026, when it will be replaced by a state-of-the-art campus, the ECU City Campus, in the heart of the city. About two hours south of Perth is the South West Campus (Bunbury), in the beautiful Margaret River region.
