Founded in 1939 as DongA Engineering Institute, Hanyang University became Korea’s first engineering school and remains a powerhouse in science and technology to this day. Accommodation

On campus dormitory partially available for free mover students; rooms are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis upon payment.

Students may also choose to arrange their own accommodations. We provide a list of possible accommodations that received positive reviews from past international students for reference.

Social and extracurricular activities

There are several social and extracurricular activities at Hanyang University, with the most prominent ones being:

  • Nanodegree: Nanodegree provides students the opportunity to build basic, essential skills to start a career in business, and to supplement their credentials with an additional academic achievement. A nanodegree requires 6 credits (2 courses) and can be completed in one semester.
  • Internship program: Students who are interested in an Internship Program as well as academic semester in Korea are welcome to join Hanyang where you can do both in one semester.
  • Cultural excursions, Club activities: Each semester, students can enjoy a variety of cultural experiences including a campus tour, a field trip to Everland Amusement Park, and various club activities designed to help them connect with local and international peers.

Visa and immigration

* D-2-8 visa required before arriving in Korea
All foreign visiting students need to obtain D-2-8 visa for their studies at Hanyang. Hanyang University provides “Certificate of Admission” and “Business Certificate of Hanyang University” when your admission to Hanyang is confirmed. And with other documents you may be required for your application of a D-2-8 visa, make sure to complete visa application at Korean Embassy.

* FRC registration required after arriving in Korea
D-2-8 visa is a single-entry visa and it will be valid only for 90 days after student’s arrival in Korea. Therefore, students should apply for an “Alien Registration Card (ARC)” to extend their stay to complete the program and to allow themselves to travel to other countries if needed.
Students cannot leave Korea until receiving FRC. Leaving Korea without FRC will result in cancellation of the visa and the visiting student program.

*Β For students with dual citizenship – students with Korean heritage
If you hold Korean citizenship, you are required to enter Korea using a Korean passport. In this case, you do not need a student visa.
Please be aware that children born overseas to parents with Korean citizenship are automatically granted Korean citizenship, so you may have dual citizenship without realizing it. We strongly advise you to verify whether this is the case for you.
