About

Hawai‘i Pacific University (HPU) is located in Honolulu, Hawai‘i—one of the most diverse and globally connected cities in the United States. Known for its inclusive community and strong international orientation, HPU welcomes students from more than 42 countries each year, creating a multicultural learning environment where global perspectives are part of everyday life.

HPU offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs in high-demand fields, including business, international relations, marine biology, computer science, psychology, and more. Classes are intentionally small, enabling students to collaborate closely with professors who bring real-world expertise from both U.S. and international industries. This personalized approach allows students to receive individual guidance, build strong academic relationships, and gain practical skills that enhance career readiness.

The university’s setting is a major part of the student experience. HPU’s urban campus is integrated into downtown Honolulu, giving students direct access to internships, part-time work opportunities, nonprofit organizations, and government institutions. At the same time, Hawai‘i’s world-renowned natural environment—beaches, marine ecosystems, volcanic landscapes, and tropical forests—provides an extraordinary outdoor classroom, especially for students in marine science, sustainability, and environmental studies.

With its distinctive location, global mindset, and strong academic programs, Hawai‘i Pacific University offers international students a truly unique U.S. study experience that combines academic excellence with cultural immersion and personal growth.

Social and extracurricular activities

Overlooking the harbor with gorgeous sunrise and sunset views and featuring pool (billiards), ping-pong, foosball, and air hockey tables, plus an incredible variety of board and card games, Sharky’s Cove is the place to go for socializing and having fun—when you’re not relaxing on the comfy couches and enjoying the warm ocean breeze, that is!

Sharky’s Cove is accessible to all students with student ID between the hours of 8am-10pm daily. In addition, there is a Student Activities Ambassador present to help students check out gaming materials between 5pm-10pm Monday-Friday (excluding holidays, finals week, and academic breaks).

During the evening/night on weekdays, we host a small activity in Sharky’s Cove to unwind after classes. Whether this be Taco and Trivia Tuesday, painting your own holiday-themed tote bag, a Sunset Yoga session, or any one of an endless number of possibilities, there’s always something to do in Sharky’s Cove!

Health and Wellness encompasses more than just staying physically active. At HPU, we follow the framework of the seven dimensions of wellness: Physical, Social, Emotional, Spiritual, Cultural, Environmental, and Occupational.

Our Yin-Yang Wellness Weekends program gives students balanced options for pursuing well-rounded, multidimensional wellness. Over the weekends, students can sign up for a range off-campus health and wellness activities. We offer one low-key “Yin” event—such as an escape room, esports tournament, or mini golfing—and one intensive “Yang” event, such as hiking, canoeing, or outdoors community volunteering, for students to stay healthy and well in every sense.

These off-campus activities are led by Student Activities Ambassadors and require students to sign up in advance. Your HPU student ID is required to register and attend our Wellness Weekend activities.

Visa and immigration

To kickstart your Visa and immigration procedures, we would need a completed SFS form and financial documents. More on that during the application process.
