J. F. Oberlin University is a private, four-year university with five campuses across Tokyo and Kanagawa. Founded in 1946 by Reverend Yasuzo Shimizu, the university comprises a College of Arts and Sciences, five professional colleges, and a graduate division. With more than 11,000 students, including a growing international student community, J. F. Oberlin University is committed to fostering globally minded citizens grounded in Christian values.

Accommodation

Although we have an International Dormitory, availability is limited, and free-mover students are required to arrange their own accommodation. The area surrounding the campus offers more affordable housing options compared to central Tokyo.

Social and extracurricular activities

We have a student-oriented group called the “Global Supporters,” which organizes regular international events for both local and international students. We also have a buddy system that pairs exchange students with local students to help them adjust to campus life and build connections. The Office of International Programs also organizes cultural events, such as camping trips and barbecues, where students from different countries can interact and engage with one another. International students are also welcome to join our university clubs.

Visa and immigration

We provide visa application support for all participants in the semester exchange program. Participants are required to submit all necessary information and documents by the designated deadlines so that we can assist them with the application for the Certificate of Eligibility (COE), which is required for the visa application process.

From September to January, Tokyo transitions from late summer warmth to a mild winter climate. Early fall offers warm days and comfortable sunshine, while October and November bring pleasant temperatures and colorful autumn scenery. By December and January, cooler, drier conditions arrive, with clear skies and crisp winter air.

From April to August, Tokyo transitions from a comfortable spring climate into the heat of summer. April and May offer mild temperatures, clear skies, and beautiful seasonal scenery, making them ideal months for outdoor activities. June brings the rainy season and increasing humidity, while July and August feature hot, sunny summer weather with occasional heavy rain and typhoons.
