Lifestyle

Life in

Buenos Aires

Accommodation

Universidad Austral students can choose between living in Buenos Aires city or near the Pilar campus. Most international students prefer Buenos Aires for its vibrant cultural life, restaurants, and easy access to public transport. Popular neighborhoods include Palermo, Belgrano, and Núñez, which are safe, well-connected, and close to the shuttle and bus services that link directly to campus. Those looking for more tranquility may opt for Pilar, where student residences such as Casa Campus or Campus Vista offer modern facilities right next to the university. Another recommended option, especially for the first month, is a homestay with a local family through trusted partners like HomeAbroad BA, a great way to practice Spanish and immerse yourself in Argentine culture.

Social and extracurricular activities

Your semester at Austral is about more than academics, it’s also about discovering Argentina and making connections. The university organizes orientation days, campus activities, and cultural workshops to help you settle in and meet fellow students. You’ll have the chance to join tango classes, mateadas (traditional mate-drinking meetups), cultural excursions, and volunteering projects. The International Office also promotes events like Campus Day and city tours, where you can explore Buenos Aires’ vibrant neighborhoods, markets, and social life. Beyond campus, students often get involved in community engagement initiatives and enjoy the rich cultural offerings of Buenos Aires, from art exhibitions to football matches.

Visa and immigration

If you plan to study at Universidad Austral for more than 90 days, you must apply for a student visa before traveling to Argentina. The process can take up to three months, so it’s important to start as soon as you receive your letter of acceptance. Applications are handled through the nearest Argentine consulate, and you’ll need supporting documents such as your admission letter and, for stays over six months, an apostilled criminal background check from countries where you have lived for more than a year in the past three years. Universidad Austral will provide all the necessary certificates to support your application. Full details and step-by-step instructions are available on Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website: Student Visa – 365 Days.
