Accommodation

Most of our programmes are held at the Barcelona campus. In this case, students typically find accommodation in Barcelona city, where a wide range of options are available, including student apartments, shared flats, and host family stays.

UAB also offers an accommodation service called Vila Universitària, which primarily manages student residences located on the Bellaterra campus. In addition, this service may also support or provide access to off-campus housing options in Barcelona city, including, for example, host family accommodation.

If a programme is held on the Bellaterra main campus (outside Barcelona), students may access UAB student halls of residence and other on-campus facilities, including apartments with capacity for approximately 2,000 students.

Social and extracurricular activities

At the Barcelona campus, the UAB Language Services and ESN UAB (Erasmus Student Network) organise weekly on-site Language Exchange sessions and cultural events. In addition, the main UAB campus in Bellaterra offers a gym and various other facilities that Study Abroad students can access.

Barcelona itself has an exceptional cultural scene, providing endless possibilities for social, cultural, and sports activities for students to enjoy at any time of year.

Visa and immigration

Students who are EU citizens have no legal formalities to complete before coming to Spain. However, citizens from European Union or European Economic Area member states, as well as from the Swiss Confederation, who intend to reside in Spain for more than three months, must register at the Central Registry Office for Foreigners (Registro Central de Extranjeros) to be issued a certificate of registration and an identity number for foreigners.

Students who are non-EU citizens must arrange their legal situation depending on the duration of their stay. The UAB Study Abroad Program provides with admission documentation that students should show at any Spanish Embassy or Consulate to start their visa application.

Please be mindful that visa applications must be submitted at least two months before the start of classesIt is the student’s responsibility to obtain the visa in sufficient time before the beginning of the program.

Please note also that for obtaining a student visa there is a minimum requirement of 24 ECTS per semester.

The only exceptions are Summer and May programmes as many of the students do not require a VISA to travel due to the programme’s duration being shorter than three months.
