About

The University of Liverpool is a world-class research institution ranked in the top 150 universities globally by QS World University Rankings 2026 and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026. It is also a founding member of the Russell Group, an elite group of research-intensive universities in the UK.

The International Summer School is an incredible, culturally immersive programme built on engaging sessions that enable students to study a diverse range of credit-bearing modules to either complement their existing degree or diversify their learning over three or six weeks, all while having an authentic British experience. The programme also includes a full social programme, including tours, sporting activities, movie nights and a trip to Wales.

By participating in the International Summer School, students become University of Liverpool alumni, which entitles them to significant discounts for postgraduate study via our Graduate Loyalty Scholarship.

Accommodation

As winner of the ‘Best University Accommodation’ award 2021 (National Student Housing Awards), the University has a great range of accommodation options and we aim to house study abroad students together along with home students from Liverpool who have recently returned from studying abroad. Additionally, there are a range of accommodation options both on-and-off campus to choose from.

Full Year, Semester Two and Summer students are guaranteed university accommodation. Semester One students can also apply and rooms are allocated through a lottery system.

All of our halls have a supportive and safe environment so you can feel at home from the very beginning. Our team of Residential Advisors and Hall Student Committees are there to enhance the residence experience and you will be invited to a programme of social activities to help settle in to life in Liverpool.

Social and extracurricular activities

We know that studying abroad isn’t just about what goes on inside of the classroom and we’re thrilled when visiting students can experience UK culture first hand. To help, every year we run our Culture Calendar – which is a great way for you to be introduced to Liverpool, the wider UK and to make friends through our events and day trips.

These experiences are either free or are offered at a reduced cost, with a focus on showing the ‘locals perspective’ of Liverpool. They are also an easy way to visit some of the highlights our island has to offer, many of which are difficult to access without the private transport we provide.

You will be invited to some of the coolest venues in the city for our Welcome and Farewell celebrations at either end of the semester.
