Lifestyle

Life in

Barcelona

Accommodation

Students joining our semester programmes in Barcelona have the opportunity to live and study in one of Europe’s most vibrant and culturally rich cities. While UVic does not provide on-campus housing, we can provide guidance and references to trusted residences, student apartments, and other housing options. Students are encouraged to explore these options and contact them directly to find a comfortable, and convenient place to live, according to their preferences. Living in Barcelona allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture, connect with fellow students, and make the most of your semester abroad.

For students attending our summer courses, accommodation at modern, comfortable residences in the vibrant 22@ district is available for those who wish to select this option (optional and upon availability). Located just minutes from campus, cafés, and cultural hotspots, these residences provide a convenient and inspiring home, allowing students to fully enjoy their summer in Barcelona while meeting peers from around the world.

Social and extracurricular activities

While our programmes do not include separate social or extracurricular activities, students benefit from a variety of company visits and cultural experiences integrated into the courses. These activities bring learning to life, allowing students to connect with professionals, explore innovative organizations, and gain hands-on insights. At the same time, cultural visits let participants discover Barcelona’s unique identity — from its architecture and history to its vibrant neighbourhoods, gastronomy, and Mediterranean lifestyle.

Visa and immigration

Students are responsible for arranging any visa or entry requirements needed to participate in the programme. If a visa is required, our team can provide official enrolment documents to support your application at a Spanish Embassy or Consulate. In addition, UVic’s International Campus Support Point offers guidance and assistance to international students throughout their stay.

We strongly recommend starting the process well in advance to ensure all documentation is prepared before the programme begins.

Mid-Late December
🌡️ 10°C to 28°C

Barcelona in the fall offers a comfortable transition from late-summer warmth to cooler, refreshing days. September and October are typically sunny and mild, creating ideal conditions for spending time outdoors, whether along the waterfront or in the city’s lively neighborhoods. By November, temperatures cool down and rainfall becomes more frequent, bringing a fresh feel to the city and a shift toward cozy indoor spaces. December remains relatively mild, with pleasant daytime temperatures that still allow for outdoor activities, all set against a festive seasonal atmosphere.

Spring semester

Spring in Barcelona bursts with energy. Cool but sunny January days give way to balmy afternoons by March and April, perfect for cycling, sightseeing, or studying outdoors. Parks and plazas bloom with color, while weekends offer endless options: sun-soaked beaches, rooftop terraces, and lively cultural events. Spring showers keep the city green, but the inviting Mediterranean climate ensures you can always find your favorite outdoor hangout.

Summer School

Late June

Late July

Student experiences

This Study Abroad programme is very international. You learn how to work with different cultures and different people. We have a lot of projects, we do fieldtrips, we have presentations. So it's very practical, you learn something for yourself. If you want to have a great international experience, then this programme is the right programme for you!

Veronika (Germany)

We've taken a wide variety of really amazing classes throughout my time at UVic. I think Barcelona is really a melting pot where a lot of people from all over the world come to celebrate this unique culture. It would be a crime for me to not come back to Barcelona!
