Established in 1907 by the German government, Tongji University is one of the oldest, most selective and most prestigious universities in China. Being a Chinese Ministry of Education Class A Double First Class University, it holds the highest evaluation of prestige in the country among with other few selected universities. Tongji is also one of the top universities in the world: QS ranked the institution 265th in the world according to its 2020 World University Rankings. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 placed Tongji 13th in China. Furthermore, the university holds a “Triple Crown” accreditation (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA). Only 74 institutions in the world have this status.
