Established in 1290, University of Coimbra is the oldest public university of Portugal and the 8th oldest university in the world in existence. It is the founding member of the Coimbra Group, a group of leading European research universities. It has over 20.000 students and, counting students from 70 different nationalities, hosts one of the largest communities of international students in Portugal. The university is ranked in the world’s most prominent universities rankings, such as the ones made by: ARWU, CWTS, QS, Times Higher Education and USNWR. With a rich and full history, its campus is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
