University of Marburg

The University of Marburg was founded in 1527. It is one of Germany’s oldest public universities and the oldest still operating Protestant university in the world. In 1609 it established the world’s first professorship in chemistry. It is the university with the highest percentage of international students in the German state of Hesse. The city of Marburg has approximately 86.000 residents, while the University of Marburg can count on 26.500 students, making Marburg is a truly student-sized town. The university is a member of the Compostela Group of Universities, an international non-profit association that promotes and executes collaboration projects between institutions of higher education.
