We invite you to join us in Norwich, England’s first UNESCO City of Literature, in July 2026 for Fiction in all its Forms: UEA Creative Writing Summer School, part of the UEA Summer University.
UEA is recognised today as the home of Creative Writing across the globe – we pioneered the teaching of the subject in Europe more than 50 years ago when our first student was future Booker Prize winner Ian McEwan. Since then, we have trained countless award-winning writers, including Sir Kazuo Ishiguro, the 2017 Nobel Laureate for Literature.
Although we teach all forms of writing, it is fiction especially which we have defined over the last fifty years. This 2-week course gives you an opportunity to experience our Creative Writing workshops and pedagogy while gaining experience of writing the form with which UEA is most associated.
One of the areas in which fiction and non-fiction meet most energetically is in place writing – and it is this form which will be at the heart of this summer school. UEA, Norwich and Norfolk will act as inspiration for the course, with trips to Britain’s most radical art gallery, the medieval city of Norwich, the British Archive for Contemporary Writing, and Holkham Estate.
We welcome students from all disciplines whether you have creative writing experience or not. This course will help you find your voice and become a more confident writer, learning and writing alongside likeminded individuals and leading experts in the field.
