Roskilde University (RUC) is a Danish public university founded in 1972 and located in Roskilde, just outside Copenhagen. It was originally established in order to challenge academic traditions and to experiment with new ways to create and acquire knowledge. RUC has brought the Anglo-Saxon concepts of interdisciplinarity and less well-defined boundaries between academic fields to Denmark. The university offers English-taught undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programmes within social sciences, business studies, arts and humanities, science, technology, health care and environmental assessment. RUC is ranked in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and gains a notable mention by QS World University Rankings for the subject categories of “Politics & International Studies” and “Communication & Media Studies”.
