Sungkyunkwan University

Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) is a private comprehensive research university in South Korea. It was established in 1398 as the Joseon Dynasty’s highest educational institution. Its name means, Sung “to make”, Kyun “harmonious society”, Kwan “institute”. It is focused on in-depth study of the Chinese Classics, Confucian canon, and literature of the era, and how to apply the knowledge to governing the nation and understanding the nature of humanity. The university spends heavily on research and development, mostly funded by its primary sponsor tech-giant Samsung, Hyundai and other government funding agencies, producing high-end research scientists. Its partner universities include: MIT Sloan, Columbia University and many more. SKKU is excellently placed in the most notable international rankings: it is ranked as the 89th best university in the world by Times Higher Education and 95th by QS World University Rankings.
