Founded in 1948 by a group of Colombian intellectuals, Universidad de los Andes, commonly self-styled as Uniandes, is a private research university located in the city centre of Bogotá, Colombia. It is the oldest nonsectarian (independent from any political party or religious institution) Colombian university and one of the few Colombian universities to have received the highest quality institutional accreditation by the Colombian Ministry of Education. Uniandes is considered as one of the best universities in Latin America (5th by QS and Times Higher Education rankings) and in the world (234th by QS World University Rankings and 261st by Times Higher Education World University Rankings).
