University of Helsinki

Founded in 1640 as the “Royal Academy of Åbo”, the University of Helsinki is the oldest and largest university in Finland. It places heavy emphasis on high-quality teaching and research of a top international standard. The university is a member of various prominent international university networks, such as Europaeum, UNICA, the Utrecht Network, and is a founding member of the League of European Research Universities. The University of Helsinki is the only Finnish university to consistently rank in the top 100 of world university rankings: it is placed 63rd in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, 96th in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and 104th in the QS World University Rankings. This means that the University of Helsinki places within the top 0,5% of the world’s universities, holding firmly the first place among Finnish universities.
