The University of Lille is a French pluridisciplinary public university located in and around Lille, Hauts-de-France. It has its origins in the University of Douai, founded in 1559, and it resulted from the merger in 2018 of the three universities of Lille: Lille 1, Lille 2 and Lille 3. With more than 67.000 students, it is the largest French university by enrollment and one of the largest French-speaking universities in the world. The university is the main component of the Community of Universities and Institutions (COMUE), and it is a labeled I-Site (Initiatives for Science-Innovation-Territories-Economy) by the French government. It is also a member of the CURIF (Coordination of French research-intensive universities), which brings together the most important French universities by research.
