The University of St Andrews is a public university in St Andrews, Scotland. It was founded in 1413 when the Avignon Antipope Benedict XIII issued a papal bull to a small founding group of Augustinian clergy. Despite being located in a small, rural town, it is a highly international university: 45% of its students, representing over 145 nationalities, come from abroad. It has a very low acceptance rate: only 20% of applicants are admitted every year. The University of St Andrews is ranked among the 100 best universities in the world by QS World University Rankings, with top-notch positions in the Arts and Humanities field.
