The current system is meh 🫤

It usually works this way: for every institution you want to apply to, you are required to pay an application fee upfront to process your application. The more applications you send, the more application fees you pay, which can easily stack up and combine themselves into a really hefty expense.
 
Application fees are reasonable from an institution’s standpoint since they need to process all of your requests and ensure that only legitimate applications are received.
 
However, the situation might not be as ideal for you, as you might want to send applications in batches to maximize your chances of admission, which can add up to a significant cost just to get you started with your free mover journey.

How it works on wearefreemovers

We completely waive application fees for you, so that you can send all the applications you want instantly, on our portal, for free. Hence, you can have a really simple, fast, and convenient playground to test the waters and see where your application can land in a positive way, without worrying too much about the huge upfront cost of sending your profile to multiple institutions.
 
Then, just like with any other booking, when you are pre-selected to one of our partner universities, you are asked to confirm your selection by paying a small deposit of 99€ (or more, if the university requires it). This is significantly cheaper compared to other online services that charge four to six times this amount.

Confirmation deposit cashback explained

1. Pay the deposit

As mentioned, after being chosen, you are required to pay a small deposit of 99€ to secure your place. This is essential to determine whether you are willing to accept the offer that you received.
 
Keep in mind that offers for confirmation are available only for 15 days after you get a notification from us. So, it’s important to confirm your selection as soon as possible if you are determined to join the destination, as spots can’t be reserved indefinitely.
 
It’s just like booking a ticket for a concert. After 10 minutes, you get kicked out. Hopefully, for a free mover semester, you have 15 days, which is more reasonable, but still, you need to act quickly.
 
This is not an application fee, as the difference is simple:
  • 👍 with us, you just need to pay one deposit after you get an offer on our platform.
  • 👎 without us, you are asked to pay multiple application fees at different universities before even getting feedback from them. And even once you get admitted, you still have to pay a deposit.

2. Start your semester abroad ✈️

Once you have completed the process, paid the full semester fee to the university, and officially started your free mover semester abroad (we hope at the destination of your dreams), the reward kicks in.

Unfortunately, in most cases, your deposit is non-refundable unless something goes wrong on the university’s end.
